Ozone Therapy: What Is It Actually Doing in Your Body?

A bag of blood, a burst of ozone, and a reinfusion can look downright strange if you don’t know what you’re seeing. I’m breaking down ozone autohemotherapy in plain English: what major autohemotherapy (MAH) actually is, why it’s not “magic,” and why the most interesting part isn’t the tubing, it’s the signaling that may follow once that treated blood returns to circulation.
We go deep on the science framing that makes ozone therapy worth discussing responsibly: redox signaling, hormesis, NRF2 activation, antioxidant defenses, mitochondrial function, immune communication, inflammatory pathways, and endothelial function. I explain why medical ozone is not an oxygen transfusion and why “more ozone” is not the goal. We also cover the most important safety line for anyone researching ozone treatment: you do not breathe ozone, and proper medical ozone therapy uses controlled concentrations and specific routes that avoid lung exposure.

So today I want to talk about something you might have seen on Instagram or our Facebook, and it looks a little weird. It's ozone autohemotherapy. So you see a bag of blood, you see the tubing, maybe you see me making the ozone and what happens after the blood interacts with that ozone, and that I give it back to my patients. And if you've uh just happened to walk past the treatment room without knowing what was happening, you might wonder like, what in the vampire wellness is going on in this place? And that's fair. You know, major autohemotherapy, often abbreviated as MAH, maybe one of those treatments that looks slightly creepy from the outside. But the blood in the bag isn't actually the most interesting part. The fascinating part is what may happen after that blood goes back into the body. We're talking about redox signaling, antioxidant defenses, mitochondrial function, immune communication, inflammatory pathways, endothelial function, oxygen utilization, cellular resistance, and potentially a very different physiologic environment or terrain than the one that we started with. That is why ozone continues to fascinate me. And it's not because I think it's magic. I think it is magical. Admittedly, when you watch someone who has felt terrible for months or even years suddenly tell you, like, hey, I feel like myself again, it can feel pretty darn magical. So I want to talk today about the history, the science, the weirdness of it, the different ways ozone can be administered, and the potential benefits and what we actually think is happening inside
Ozone’s Long Medical History
SPEAKER_00the body. Okay, ozone did not come from Instagram. Ozone therapy sometimes gets dismissed as a modern wellness trend, except it's been around far longer than social media or wellness influencers or IV bars or even antibiotics. The story actually begins in the 19th century. It was around 1840. There was a German-Swiss chemist, Christian Frederick Schaunbein, who identified ozone as a distinct substance and named it from the Greek word ozine, meaning to smell. Scientists quickly became interested in its powerful oxidative and disinfecting properties. By the late 1800s, ozone generators were being developed and ozone was being explored for water purification and medical applications. Nikola Tesla even patented an ozone generated generator in the United States in the late 19th century. Then came World War I. Before antibiotics transform medicine, infected wounds were a big problem. During World War I, ozone was used topically in attempts to manage infected wounds, gangrene, trench foot, and other battlefield injuries. Its antimicrobial properties made it particularly interesting at a time when treatment options were painfully limited. As antibiotics became widely available, much of Western medicine understandably moved in another direction. Penicillin was easier. You didn't need an ozone generator, you didn't need specialized administration, you just gave a medication. And antibiotics changed medicine forever. But ozone did not disappear. It continued development, particularly in Germany, Italy, Russia, Cuba, and other parts of Europe and Latin America. Over time, physicians developed more sophisticated ozone generators capable of delivering carefully controlled mixtures of medical oxygen and ozone. Eventually, clinicians began exposing a patient's blood to carefully controlled oxygen-ozone mixtures outside the body and returning that blood to circulation. And that's what became major autohemotherapy. So when someone asks, is ozone one of those new alternative therapies? The answer is not even remotely. The better question is: after more than a century of experimentation, what has modern science actually learned from it? And that's where I think it gets really interesting.
What Ozone Is And Safety
SPEAKER_00And I want to talk about first what exactly is the ozone? Okay, the oxygen we normally breathe, that's O2, two oxygen atoms. Ozone is O3, so there's three oxygen atoms. That extra oxygen atom makes ozone much more reactive. And that reactivity is exactly why researchers became interested in it. It is also why I want to bring the safety point up. You do not breathe ozone. Medical ozone therapy does not mean inhaling ozone. Ozone inhalation can actually injure your respiratory tissue. Medical ozone is generated in controlled concentrations from medical-grade oxygen and delivered through specific routes that avoid pulmonary exposure. These routes can be the major autohemotherapy, IV. It could be rectal insuflation, vaginal insuflation, topical applications. You can ozonate oils. Even our osmosis brand of skincare that we have has an ozonated product. It can be in certain localized injections. You can even do ear insufflation. They're not all equivalent. But we'll talk about the major autohemotherapy because it's what gets everyone's
Major Autohemotherapy Walkthrough
SPEAKER_00attention. It's the creepy-looking one. So during major autohemotherapy, a measured amount of a patient's blood is withdrawn into an appropriate sterile treatment system. How I do mine is I'll put an IV in, I'll give you a little drink of water through a bag, then I'll drop that bag under your heart and let gravity flow your blood back into the bag. Then I generate a precise oxygen ozone mixture and I introduce it to the blood in the bag. Okay, the ozone reacts almost immediately with the components in your blood. Then that treated blood, I infuse it right back to you. Visually, it's dramatic. Okay. You see your blood go from dark to a bright, bright red. And biologically, that's where things get interesting.
Redox Signaling And Hormesis
SPEAKER_00Ozone itself, it doesn't just sit inside your bloodstream for hours. It's extremely reactive. Once ozone contacts biological fluids, it reacts quickly with antioxidants, proteins, and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Those reactions generate downstream molecules, including reactive oxygen species known as ROS, and lipid oxidation products. Those molecules can function as cellular messengers. So rather than thinking, ugh, we're filling the blood with ozone, no, think about we are creating a biological signal. The ozone rings the cellular doorbell. Then your biology gets to answer. So imagine your body as an enormous group chat. The immune system is messaging, your endothelium is responding. Okay, sometimes your gut has an opinion, the mitochondria, they're busy working, hormones start to chime in, your nervous system has 12,000 unread notifications. And I usually have people tell me they felt like they had multiple tabs open running at the same time. And chronic inflammation keeps hitting the reply all button. Ozone introduces a short controlled oxidative signal. So that signal appears capable of activating cellular defense pathways, including the NRF2, which is one of the body's major regulators of antioxidant response. NRF2 influences systems that involve your glutathione, your superoxide dismutase, your catalase, your heme oxygenase, um, detoxification enzymes, cellular stress responses. Don't worry about it. I'll leave all that jumbo to me. What it means is that ozone isn't being used with the goal of overwhelming the body with oxidation. Okay, it's being used with the intention of creating a controlled challenge that stimulates adaptation. Okay. So I know you're like, hold up. What do you mean? Are we actually creating oxidative stress? Well, we are a tiny controlled amount. This principle is called hormesis. You know, exercise is stressful. Being in a sauna is stressful on the body. Cold plunge, that is stressful to your body. Fasting creates metabolic stress. The benefit doesn't necessarily come from the stress itself, it comes from how your body adapts to it. So medical ozone is studied the exact same way. The goal doesn't mean that more ozone equals better. Okay, it's quite the opposite. Dose matters tremendously. Too much oxidative stress can become harmful. And an appropriate challenge may activate adaptive defenses. Um, now I want to follow the blood back into the body. Okay, once the treated blood returns, um, I'm thinking about much more than what's happening in the IV tubing. Okay, even though you see it turning that bright red, I'm thinking, hmm, what are the endothelial cells doing? You know, what signals are the immune cells receiving? You know, what's happening with your antioxidant defenses? What are the mitochondrial sensing? And how is inflammatory signaling changing? Okay, how are your red blood cells behaving? Um, how is the tissue environment responding? Ozone autohemotherapy isn't just adding oxygen, it's about initiating a physiologic response. And depending on what is dysfunctional in the individual person, that response may potentially affect several overlapping systems. All right.
Mitochondria Fatigue And Brain Fog
SPEAKER_00First, we have the mitochondria, my favorite. It's the cellular kitchen. Your mitochondria help turn nutrients into usable cellular energy or ATP, but they're involved in far more than energy production. Okay, it participates in redox signaling, your immune function, inflammation, metabolism, cell death, your stress responses, aging, steroid hormone synthesis. Picture the mitochondria as tiny restaurant kitchens inside your cells. Okay. Ingredients arrive. Here comes the glucose, the fatty acids, amino acids, oxygen, minerals, vitamins. The kitchen is supposed to transform all of those ingredients into energy. But sometimes dinner service goes completely off the rails. Half the staff doesn't show up, the grill's not working correctly, the ventilation is broken. Okay, tickets get start getting stacked to the ceiling, smoke is filling the room, someone keeps yelling, you know, send more ingredients. We actually just went to Chipotle yesterday, me and my son, and they were doing that. They were yelling for beans, and the people making the beans were looking at them and actually laughed and said, we don't have any beans right now. But the problem isn't necessarily a lack of ingredients. The problem is the kitchen isn't functioning efficiently. Ozone isn't simply dumping more oxygen into the kitchen. Researchers are interested in whether controlled ozone-induced redox signaling influences mitochondrial homeostasis, antioxidant adaptation, and the environment in which those mitochondria operate. And this brings us to one of the most common things I hear clinically after a treatment. I have more energy. So why might someone feel more energy with this treatment? Okay, fatigue is so complicated. You could have fatigue from anemia, your thyroid, maybe you're sleeping poorly, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, insulin resistance, maybe a postviral syndrome or autonomic dysfunction, maybe you're deficient in nutrients or you have hormone dysfunction, maybe you're on different medications, you're under stress, you have heart problems. There's so many causes. So I never assume that fatigue means, hey, you need ozone. But if inflammation, oxidative stress, immune dysfunction, vascular function, or mitochondrial signaling are contributing to someone's fatigue, it makes total sense why influencing those systems could change how you feel. Clinically, I have people tell me, I don't need my afternoon nap anymore. I went home and I cooked dinner, or I went to the gym. I didn't hit that two o'clock wall. And my body doesn't feel so heavy. Sometimes the change is subtle. Sometimes it's not subtle at all. And no, that doesn't prove exactly which mechanism was responsible, but it does make the biology worth investigating. Another big complaint I get is brain fog. It's one of those symptoms that sound simple until you start asking what causes it. Okay. You can have brain fog with postviral illness. You can have brain fog if you didn't sleep good, if you have inflammation, if you're not good at sugar handling, if your thyroid's not working well, if your hormones are changing, if you have autonomic dysfunction, if your gut's um, if you have nutrient deficiency, vascular dysfunction, if you're chronically under stress or just have mitochondrial dysfunction. Brain fog is not a diagnosis. I have to tell people that all the time. Brain fog, it's a symptom. Now, consider several systems ozone may potentially influence. So it's your redox balance, the mitochondrial signaling, the inflammatory pathways, the microcirculation, the endothelial function, and how you use oxygen. If one or several of those systems are contributing to someone's fog, influencing that physiology can change how the brain feels. And this is something I have personally watched happen over and over again. The last person actually told me, hmm, it's like somebody turned the lights back on. And that was so powerful. But after celebrating that improvement, I still want to answer why were the lights dimmed in the first place? Because that's the terrain.
EBV Claims And Immune Modulation
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, another big use I um utilize this for is EBV. Epstein Barr virus deserves an entire conversation of its own, but it belongs to the herpes virus family. Most adults have encountered it. And once you're infected, EBV can establish latency pretty much within the B lymphocytes. And that means that it doesn't leave. Okay, think of EBV, like someone that moved into your basement. Um, I guess I can say like my son, who just stays down in the basement. Most of the time, he just stays down there. Your immune system keeps surveillance on them, nobody causes any trouble. He's just down there playing video games. Sometimes I forget he's even down there. Um, but when immune regulation becomes impaired, you might start hearing footsteps coming up. And that's one of the most important questions is why does EBV become a problem for some people? Because plenty of people carry EBV and they feel perfectly fine. So simply having EBV antibodies does not equal active disease. Okay, symptoms, they may be influenced by the relationship between the virus and your B cells, your T cells, your natural killer cells, cytokines, um, interference signaling, your stress physiology, your sleep, metabolism, even your nutrient status and your immune surveillance. But EBV itself, it has sophisticated mechanisms that help it persist and evade immune control. It's so sneaky. So the important question isn't hey, do you have EBV? The question is, how does your body handle EBV? Um, and this is where I like to separate chemistry from clinical medicine because a lot of people ask me if ozone kills EBV or Epstein Barr virus. Okay. Ozone has powerful antimicrobial and virusidal properties outside the body under controlled conditions. It can oxidize components of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms. That is one reason it has historically been used for water treatment, sterilization, and wound applications. But major autohemotherapy is not the same thing as sanitizing contaminated water. Okay. During autohemotherapy, ozone rapidly reacts with your blood. We are not sending intact ozone molecules throughout the body so they can hunt EBV down inside your B cells. So when I think about ozone and chronic viral illnesses, I'm much more interested in immune modulation. Okay, that's what I want. Um, the redox signaling, the inflammatory regulation, mitochondrial resilience and vascular function, um, cellular immune responses. In other words, maybe part of the benefit isn't simply attacking the virus. Maybe we're changing the environment in which the immune system has to manage it. Okay. I don't want to just boost your immune system. People say that a lot. I need to boost my immune system. Maybe, but sometimes your immune system isn't weak. Sometimes it's just tired, maybe it's overactive, maybe it's under responsive. Um, sometimes it's spending its time attacking the wrong things. Uh, sometimes inflammatory signaling is stuck on high. Sometimes immune surveillance is just not efficient. And what we really want is appropriate immune regulation. This is why I prefer the word immunomodulation, not a booster. The goal is not to turn the immune system up to maximize your volume. The goal is to help it communicate and respond appropriately. And this is where ozone's redox and immune signaling effects become incredibly interesting. What I've personally seen, I've worked with people dealing with chronic symptom patterns that include profound fatigue, brain fog, joint and muscle pain, inflammatory flares, okay, poor stamina, post-viral symptoms, um, recurrent infections, uh, autoimmune disease, that constant feeling of simply being unwell. And I have watched some of those patients respond dramatically to ozone. I've watched energy return, I've watched brain fog disappear, I've watched joint inflammation go away, I've watched patients stop feeling constantly sick, and I hear people say, I feel like myself again. And I've seen that over and over. That doesn't prove that ozone eradicated their EBV. That's not a claim that I am making. Um, but something changed clinically, and that makes me ask, what happened to immune signaling? What happened to the inflammation? You know, how's the mitochondrial functioning? Um, what about the vascular physiology, the redox balance, the immune surveillance? Those are exactly the kinds of observations that should lead to more scientific investigation. Chronic infection isn't always just about killing something. Okay. This is where chronic infection treatment becomes more interesting. The instinct is often, let's identify the pathogen, let's go kill it. Okay, done. Sometimes that is absolutely appropriate. Antibiotics matter, antivirals matter, antifungals matter, they save lives. I'm not replacing them with ozone, but chronic illness is a little more complicated because why does one person encounter an organism and recover normally while another develops months or years of symptoms?
Terrain Vessels Hormones And Gut Routes
SPEAKER_00The question brings me right back to terrain. And what do I mean by terrain? Because I talk about it every single week. Your terrain is the physiologic environment in which your immune system is trying to function. It includes gut health, microbiome diversity, mineral status, nutrient sufficiency, blood sugar regulation, mitochondrial health, sleep, your hormone status, your thyroid function, um, your stress physiology, the environmental exposures you have, your inflammation, your circulation, your body composition, how you move, and your antioxidant defenses. If the terrain is poor, simply attacking pathogens over and over. Is not going to restore your health. You may knock something down temporarily, but the environment that allowed dysfunction is still there. You probably have heard you cannot heal in the same environment that made you sick. So I don't want to simply kill, kill, kill. I want to help the immune system become better at regulating. That's the difference between using a therapy and actually changing the terrain. Now, another one of those underappreciated structures in health is your endothelium. The endothelium is that extremely thin layer of cells that line the inside of your blood vessels. But it's not simply like a wallpaper. Okay. Your endothelium helps regulate your nitric oxide, your blood vessel dilation, your vascular tone, your blood pressure, your platelets, your inflammation, how your blood clots, all that little microcirculation and how you make your nutrient delivery. When endothelial function goes down, blood vessels become less adaptable and less responsive. So this really matters for your brain health, your heart health, your metabolic health, how much energy you have, if you can tolerate exercise, how you heal and how you circulate. Ozone research has investigated relationships between redox signaling, nitric oxide, oxidative stress, and vascular function. And the idea isn't that ozone fills your arteries with oxygen. It's much more interesting. But how does a controlled redox signal alter vascular biology? Okay. Ozone therapy is not an oxygen transfusion. But researchers have proposed that oxygen-related biochemical changes can influence red blood cell metabolism and oxygen delivery to tissues. So some literature that I've read discusses changes involving two, three DPG. That's a molecule inside red blood cells that helps regulate the release of oxygen from your hemoglobin. This has contributed to interest in ozone in conditions involving impaired circulation or tissue oxygenation. The more accurate statement isn't, you know, oxygen, um, or rather, ozone oxygenate your entire body. It can be ozone may influence biochemical pathways involved in oxygen utilization, red cell metabolism, and microcirculation. Less flashy, but much better science. And could ozone influence hormonal symptoms? It's very possible, but not because ozone is a hormone. You know, I would never tell anybody that ozone balances hormones. Ozone is not an estrogen, it's not a progesterone, it's not testosterone, but hormones operate within the same physiologic environment as everything else, right? Hormonal signaling is influenced by inflammation and insulin resistance and your sleep and oxidative stress and liver metabolism and nutrient status. And, you know, there's a very interesting connection. Steroid hormones and mitochondria, they're very intimately connected. Early steps in the production of steroid hormones involve cholesterol entering the mitochondria. So ovarian, adrenal, testicular physiology is not separate from metabolic and mitochondrial health. Okay. And when you add in the insulin resistance or chronic inflammation or the stress or the gut health, suddenly hormone balance becomes much bigger than simply checking your estrogen number. Okay. So ozone doesn't replace hormones, but if ozone helps influence inflammatory, metabolic, vascular physiology in a particular individual, hormone-related symptoms can improve as a broader terrain improves. That's the most accurate conversation I can have about that. And you knew I wasn't writing a functional health podcast without bringing up the gut, right? Your gastrointestinal tract is constantly interacting with your immune cells, your brain, your liver, your microbiome, your metabolism, and your hormones. So when someone has chronic immune dysfunction, recurrent infections, inflammatory symptoms, or unexplained illness, I want to know what's happening in the gut. And this is where another ozone route becomes interesting. Okay. That's where we have rectal ozone. Yes. Eventually every ozone conversation gets here. Rectal insuflation involves introducing a measured oxygen ozone mixture into your rectum. There's no blood draw, there's no IV. Um, you know, it's just, you know, where do you put it? You know what I'm saying. Um, but there is a physiologic rationale. Okay. The intestinal mucosa is richly vascularized and extremely active immunologically. When ozone interacts with the intestinal environment, it reacts locally and generates downstream products that may potentially produce local and systemic signaling effects. Rectal ozone has been studied particularly in European and Cuban medical ozone research, and it has been investigated in gastrointestinal and inflammatory contexts. The route becomes really interesting when we're thinking about the relationship between gut inflammation, microbiome dysfunction, intestinal oxidative stress, but rectal ozone doesn't replace figuring out why your gut is dysfunctional. If you have parasites or H. pylori, um, IBD, um, celiac, um, pathogenic bacteria, um, major dysbiosis or food-triggered inflammation or pancreatic insufficiency. I still want to know. Okay, ozone isn't permission to stop investigating what is going on there. And I do offer rectal ozone. Some people could even buy a home machine that's not medical grade and try to insufflate their own rectum, but I do prefer the IV ozone autohemotherapy. It's so much more powerful. And the way it kind of converts is one um major autohemotherapy is equal to 10 rectal insufflations. So they're not interchangeable. Um, the ozone mixture in the MAH interacts directly with blood outside the body before the blood is returned. And this is a more systemic treatment approach. Rectal insufflation interacts with the intestinal lumen and mucosa. So both um, you know, the rationale of rectal insuflation involves both local gastrointestinal effects and possible downstream systemic signaling. It is a different route. There is a different target, it's a different conversation, just like the vaginal ozone. Um, this vaginal insufflation involves administering a controlled oxygen ozone mixture locally into the vaginal canal. So it's, you know, it the ozone's oxidative and antimicrobial characteristics can be helpful to some women if they have um just a bad vaginal microbiome. Um, researchers have examined ozone-based applications and certain vaginal, microbial, and inflammatory conditions, but you know, itching does not automatically mean you have yeast, and odor doesn't automatically mean BV. Um, discharge does not automatically equal infection. So vaginal symptoms can be related to bacterial vaginosis, candida, maybe an STI. Um, there could be changes down there, whether they're hormonal or atrophic. Um, you could have a dermatologic disorder or a cervical condition or maybe just a pelvic floor problem. You want to diagnose that first and then treat it second, always. Um, then we do have the ear ozone. Ear insufflation involves delivering low-flow ozone toward the external auditory canal using um appropriate equipment. We have headphones that we use a bubbler to bubble the um ozonated liquid. And you'll see people online making extraordinary claims about ear ozone that are treating EBV or brain infections or neurologic illness, even sinus disease and systemic infections. Um, I'm a little more cautious, and I would never tell someone to try to insulate their ears by themselves at home. There is a lot less clinical evidence for those broad systemic claims surrounding ear ozone. Um, and I don't believe that we help ozone medicine by pretending every claim has equal evidence behind it because it doesn't. So being transparent about limitations makes the legitimate science more credible. I do like the um ear ozone for people that do have chronic ear infections, sinus infections, or maybe um a younger patient who is scared of needles. Um, and you know, this is something I always consider depending on the individual. All right.
Between-Treatment Basics That Matter
SPEAKER_00Depending on the individual, I might treat with a glutathione Ivy push after, or even a full Myers cocktail. Um, I like to tailor it to the patient that I have in my chair. And not even when the patient's in my chair, you know, what you do in between ozone treatments. This may actually be more important than what happens while you're in the treatment chair because ozone, it is a treatment session. Your terrain is what you're building every day. So between treatments, I talk about hydration. You want to come into treatments well hydrated unless you've been medically instructed to restrict fluids, which I never do for ozone. And then we're gonna continue that hydration afterwards. Cells need adequate fluid and electrolytes to function. You need to eat enough protein, you know, immune function, tissue repair, glutathione production, neurotransmitters, and lean muscle all depend on amino acids. We're not just detoxing, we're actually rebuilding. And then eating the rainbow. Colorful plants provide polyphenols, carotenoids, fiber, phytonutrients. Um, they all help support antioxidant defenses and endothelial health, microbiome diversity, and cellular signaling. You cannot out-ozone a bad diet. Okay, I'm sorry. And then supporting your minerals. Magnesium and other minerals participate in hundreds of biochemical reactions. If you're deficient, we have to fix that deficiency. And regulating blood sugar. Insulin resistance can contribute to inflammatory and oxidative stress. Metabolic health is part of immune health. And supporting the gut, depending on the individual. Um, we may do a GI map. We may need to increase plant diversity or address dysbiosis, um, improve your regularity, identify infections, or maybe even just supporting digestion, um, correcting nutrient deficiencies and treating inflammatory gastrointestinal disease. If the gut is continuously feeding systemic inflammation, we have to address that. And I will keep saying this until everybody listens. You cannot biohack your way around sleep deprivation. Your immune system cares about sleep and your glucose regulation cares about sleep, your hormones care about sleep, your brain cares about sleep, your mitochondria care about sleep. So get the sleep. And you want to move your body. Movement supports your vascular health, your glucose regulation, your lymphatic flow, your mood, your sleep, and muscle mass. You don't need to destroy yourself at the gym either, okay? You can just walk, you can do a little lifting, do a little moving, just be consistent. And one of the most important things is supporting the nervous system. Chronic stress is biology. Persistent sympathetic activation influences how you sleep. It influences immune function, your blood sugar, how well you digest, your even your heart rate and blood pressure. Sometimes optimizing someone's terrain means fewer supplements and more sleep, more sunlight, more walking. Now I feel like I'm preaching. How Often To Do Ozone

Someone who is simply curious about ozone is different than someone who's dealing with chronic inflammatory symptoms or major oxidative stress or chronic infections or significant fatigue. Some people want to experience just one treatment, some undergo a full series. You know, some clinicians incorporate ozone periodically as part of a broader functional health program. The frequency, the dose, the route should depend on each individual patient and not on a one-size-fits-all social media protocol. So I may have one patient that needs four treatments. I've had others that need 32. Um, but you can absolutely just try one. You don't have to commit to some giant ozone protocol simply because you're curious.
